School Excursions

Wa’s Most Exciting excursion destination

One of the main objectives of the GDC is to provide exciting and inspiring science education programs through different school excursions and incursions. During a visit to our centre, students will be guided through our galleries and be inspired by age and year level appropriate science. We run day time school excursions of our centre, night time visits to our observatory and a combination of both.
For more information on what our school excursions involve, please download our our excursion program briefs below

Lower Primary Excursion (PP – Year 3)

Upper Primary Excursion (Year 4 – Year 6)

Middle School Excursion (Year 7 – Year 9)

Senior School Excursion (Year 10 – Year 12)

To book an excursion, download and fill out one of the booking forms below and send it through to bookings@gravitycentre.com.au. If your selected date is available, we will confirm your booking and send you out a customised timetable for your visit.

Day & Night Excursion

Rocket Science Made Easy

Model rocketry, water propelled rockets, rocket science and hands-on activities. This practical, fun and engaging session is the perfect introduction to rocketry and the basics of rocket science. A fantastic 45-50 minute session which can be repeated

Rocket Making

A fun, 1.5 hour workshop where students will build, design and launch their own bottle rockets! This is an engaging hands-on session for understanding the basics of rocket science (pitched at aged appropriate levels).

Origins of the Universe

Suitable for years 9-10 and Physics 11-12. How did the Universe originate? Where have we come from? Studying the Big Bang in year 10 with your students? This interesting session will assist you in teaching the curriculum.

Our Solar System

Discover our Solar System, planet orbits, phases of the moon, scale and distance and orbital phases. It involves fun hands-on activities using engaging equipment in indoor and outdoor activities. This session can be tailored to suit your requirements

Einstein’s Gravity

Fascinating, informative and inspiring. This incursion uses a large flexible model of the universe to replicate gravitational wells, curved space and orbital paths of objects in space. Additional resources are used in practical hands-on experiments to educate

Teacher Resources

Leaning Tower

The Leaning Tower creates an opportunity for students to investigate gravity in hands-on experiments. Download the simple recording sheet and view expected data results.

Teacher Packs

Teacher Packs support teachers implementing the Australian Curriculum Science/ Earth and Space. Packs contain lesson ideas, student activities and resources for excursions.

Gravity Play

This is a lighthearted exploration of the ideas of the modern theory of space, time and gravity. Bring theatre to your classroom with this engaging, interactive teaching tool. Ideal for year 7 Physical Science (understanding gravity)

Rocket Science Made Easy

Physics, and Secondary Physical and Earth/Space Sciences, are our core education areas. The following resource is a comprehensive guide to activities at the GDC, suitable for year 10 extension science, and year 11/12 physics. Select the activities relevant to your students to complete during your excursion.

Einstein's Field Equation

Einstein’s Field Equation tells us that space is elastic and because it is elastic, it can sustain waves.
